Getting out and about with the kids can be a daunting task, but being prepared for everything makes the day so much easier, so here's my Swiss Army bag...

1. Rucksack
A rucksack is the only way I travel. This one is great: Easy to carry, lots of space, lots of compartments and pockets. Mine is definitely function over form, but I've had it for years and it's never let me down!
2. Food
Spending the day out can all ready be expensive, so buying food along the way is bound to clean you out! Yes making packed lunches in the holidays is annoying but not as annoying when just caught your train and you hear "I'M HUNGRY!" So be ready:
Sandwiches (Including yours!)
Fruit and Veg
Dry snacks
That special treat
3. Water
I take refillable water bottles wherever we go. Since we're in the middle of a heat wave right now, we fill our bottles with ice and go. We do struggle to find water fountains in London but we take our parched looking faces into coffee shops requesting refills and have never been let down yet! It's really important to me to teach the boys to look after the planet in our everyday lives so we try to stay away from constantly buying water. #globalgoals
4. First Aid
For us this is usually tissues, an inhaler, Piriton and Paracetamol for me when the day gets all kinds of crazy.
5. Reusable cutlery
As we are all about saving our planet, I keep these heart parts in my bag at all times. Reusable cutlery means we can easily eat anything, wherever we are. The 'knife' has literally got us out of a few binds and it's a great conversation starter on the train! get yours at https://www.iheart-this.com
6. The essentials
Pack these first, you're going to get no where fast without them and your entourage will make certain of that!
Wallet
Keys
Sunglasses
7. Entertainment
They'll always be downtime when you're stuck on a platform, their patience is wearing thin or you're just trying to keep someone awake so they don't ruin their bedtime routine. See what works for you, this is our stash:
UNO - we NEVER leave home without it
Reading book
Notebook/pen
8. Scooters (These do not fit in my bag, I'm NOT Mary Poppins people!)
Lots of people ask me how I take the boys around London, they scoot! They never tire of it and it makes every space we end up in even more fun.
They love checking them into cloakrooms or making me hold them on escalators! My scooter mantra is, "If I can't see you, I can't look after you" so they abide by three rules:
Stop at every curb
Don't turn corners without me
No scooting on platforms
So once our bag is packed, we are out the door and ready to conquer a new day! What are your bag essentials? Any essentials you think I'm missing?

Awesome post. Very helpful tips for some of us who just wake up asking what day it is! The only think I would add is having an ID card with the kids. Something which has their name and your details so if they do get lost they can get someone important to call you.
